I am Making ArtTheatrical Type
Artist Monique Jivram leads a session inspired by the theatrical qualities of Giles Round’s exhibition. Using simple typography and untraditional drawing techniques, create your own individual placard and explore what we choose to communicate with others and consider how we edit ourselves.
These monthly activity sessions are led by artists and take place in the Spike Island Café. Visitors of all ages and abilities can try out new techniques and approaches to making art, from drawing and painting to collage, sculpture and animation and are invited to drop in any time during the session.
Monique is an illustrative artist who is fascinated by the universal language of images. She integrates drawings of everyday objects in her work considering image patterns: structuring and paring images to consider narratives. Beginning by thinking about language through images, Jivram explores the concept of schemas and mnemonics beginning each piece by mapping out images that support and develop starting text.
