Exhibition: Mai-Thu Perret, The Blazing World (19 January to 24 March 2019)

The Blazing World is a major new commission, extending upon Mai-Thu Perret’s interests in feminist practice and the occult. Ceramic sculptures associated with the imagery of the witch in fairy tales (the apple, the home and the farm) as well as animal masks, are positioned alongside textile banners and a spoken word recording by singer-songwriter Tamara Barnett-Herrin. These works animate a large scale theatrical stage set evoking an imagined landscape which carries the haunting sense of something yet to come.
