Spike Island

Video: Lydia Kavina Concert

We were delighted to welcome Lydia Kavina to Spike Island for a special performance to mark the opening of our summer exhibitions on Friday 29 June. Kavina – considered by many to be the world's leading theremin player and the grand-niece of the instrument's inventor Léon Theremin – frequently collaborates with artist Jesse Jones. Her music features in Jones's video installation The Struggle Against Ourselves which is on show in the gallery until 26 August.

At this special performance, Kavina played a selection of pieces from Jones's films as well as some of her own compositions. The music includes the following works: Internationale; J.S.Bach, Ich rufe zu Dir, Herr Jesus Christ; O. Rostovskaya, Russian Bells; J. Campos, Glissandy.

Thanks to Matt Oldem, Tom Ketteringham, Marko Wilkinson and Theatek.
